Come and Sing With Voce: Spring 2027 - Faure's Requiem

Join Voce, Taunton's 16 voice chamber choir, for a one day singing workshop and perform with us in our spring concert. Musical Director Joe Beckhelling will lead the workshop, and the choir will be singing alongside you. This year our workshop will also be joined by a chamber orchestra, for the full experience.The workshop will run from 10am to 6pm with coffee and lunch breaks. We'd love you to also sing in the concert which will be from 7pm to 9pm, but this isn't mandatory. The Requiem will form the second half of the concert, with a mixed programme of shorter pieces from Voce in the first half.This workshop is aimed at singers with some choral experience rather than beginners. You'll need to be proficient at following a score. Under 18s are welcome to join the workshop but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.About the music:
Gabriel Faure's Requiem in D minor is a choral-orchestral setting of the Catholic Mass for the Dead. Unlike traditional Requiems that focus on the terrors of Judgment Day, Faure's work is a serene, comforting meditation on eternal rest, peaceful acceptance, and paradise and is a firm favourite with choral singers. Faure deliberately omits the dramatic, fire-and-brimstone Dies Irae sequence, opting instead to leave listeners with a message of gentle consolation.About the score:
We will be singing the 1893 edition from OUP edited by John Rutter. Library copies will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own copy if you already own one.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day, but do bring a packed lunch and tea if you are staying for the concert.Please aim to arrive from 9.45am to register, receive your music and get something to drink before we start at 10:00.
