Visit to Henry Moore: Monumental Nature at Kew Gardens
Thursday 19th November 2026
Dear Members and Visitors
I am delighted to inform you of the next Arts Society visit and hope that you will be able to join us. I am proposing a visit to see the Henry Moore sculpture exhibition at Kew Gardens, travelling by 19 seater coach from Chandler's Ford, with one other pick up stop in The Avenue, Southampton.
Monumental Nature is the largest ever presentation of outdoor artworks by Moore. There are 30 sculptures around the gardens, and whilst we cannot see them all in one day, we will certainly be able to learn more about them through a guided walking tour, the exhibition in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery and free time to see more of the sculptures independently.
There is a lot of information about the exhibition on the Kew Gardens website www.kew.org
On arrival at Kew, we will walk to the Orangery for refreshments and then have a one hour guided walking tour taking in up to 8 of the nearest sculptures. The rest of the day will be free time to enable you to explore the rest of the site as you wish and at your own pace. There are several locations where refreshments can be purchased, or you may wish to bring your own lunch.
There will be 2 coach pick up points. The first one will be the Northlands Road bus stop on The Avenue, Southampton at 08:30. The second will be at the Fryern Hill bus stop in Chandler's Ford to be picked up by coach at 08:45. This is the stop outside the Co-op shop and Josie's cafe. Journey time to Kew Gardens from there is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
Schedule for the day:
