Old Habits, New Tricks

What draws you to attend particular concerts? Is it the performer? Music you already love? Or the opportunity to discover something new? Do you relish hours spent in the same musical time or place? Or is variety the spice of your musical life?In this talk, music journalist, broadcaster and cultural historian Flora Willson traces changing fashions in concert programming from the late 18th century to today, right here at New Paths! She explores what those shifts mean for how we listen and what we value in music - and ponders their impact on her own role as a critic. This event is part of the New Paths Music Festival, see here for more details and the full programme.
