Traversing the length and breadth of our island, via, among other places, Carmarthenshire, the Inner Hebrides and the Notting Hill Carnival, shes in search of a more honest national identity that challenges tired narratives of empire and reconnects us with a deeper past.She discovers it in folk songs, ancient legends and the mystic stone circles that punctuate our landscape.
Finding Albion follows the Wheel of the Year, a pagan way to chart the changing seasons.
Her journey begins as the sun rises on one spring equinox over Glastonbury Tor and ends on spring equinox a year later here in Wiltshire at Stonehenge.Building on My Albion, her BBC Radio 4 series, the book explores whether she can truly belong in Britain her fathers family line stretches back to tin-mining stock in Cornwall, her mothers to the tiny Caribbean island of Carriacou.
Its an uplifting mission that heralds the promise of a brighter future.
We are in dire need of different stories about Britain, she says.
