Acis & Galatea

Details

New Sussex Opera have re-imagined Handel’s delightful opera Acis and Galatea, setting it in a 1960s hippie commune. In a story of two distinct halves, the colourful, joyful tale of lost and reunited love turns more sinister in the second half as Acis and Galatea have their blissful dreams plagued by the monster Polyphemus.

Conducted by Nicholas Houghton and directed by David Foster, the acclaimed NSO Chorus are joined by talented young soloists and accompanied on period instruments by the NSO Baroque Players. Cast includes Katherine MacRae as Galatea, Alex Akhurst as Acis, Olivia Hemmings as Damon and Andrew Robinson as Polyphemus.

Join them for a stunning afternoon of Handel and possibly the spirit of Hendrix weaving his way through the 60s commune!
