A Christmas Celebration

Details

Join us for our annual Christmas Celebration in the atmospheric surroundings of Southwell Minster. The Southwell Festival Voices with director Marcus Farnsworth offer a selection of carols old and new in a stunning sequence of poetry and music which celebrates the joy of Christmas.

Well known, traditional carols such as Away in a Manger and The Holly and Ivy rub shoulders with the new and unfamiliar, including modern classics by composers Jonathan Dove, Matthew Martin and Judith Weir, the current Master of the King's Music.

We are joined once again by the inimitable Clive Mantle as our reader. A firm favourite with our audiences, Clive is well known for his appearances on TV including The Vicar of Dibley, Game of Thrones and Holby City. He brings his vocal talents to a range of poems and prose by the likes of John Betjeman, Carol Anne Duffy and Wendy Cope.

We promise an evening of reflective and intimate music reflecting on the themes of hope and peace which are central to the Christmas story.

Music to include:

Jonathan Dove The Three Kings Cheryl Frances Hoad Good Day, Sir Christemas Herbert Howells Sing Lullaby Matthew Martin O Magnum Mysterium Peter Warlock Bethlehem Down Judith Weir Illuminare Jerusalem
