Details

A rare concert by accordionist and Treacherous Orchestra front man John Sommerville and his short course students. John will present his Feis Rois-commissioned suite of music inspired by the voyage of the Hector. In early July 1773, 207 passengers, mainly from Lochbroom in Wester Ross, boarded the ship in the small Scottish village of Ullapool. The ship finally came to port in the town of Pictou, Nova Scotia in mid-September. The landing was several weeks later than planned. The journey between the two ports was one of great drama, hardship and suffering, but the passengers had remarkable strength of spirit and optimism for their future. The Voyage of the Hector will prelude the launch of SEALL's An Tinne story later in the evening, led by Gaelic singer Anne Martin. Ticket holders to the An Tinne concert will be welcome to join SEALL and the musicians for a special celebratory launch reception at 7.20.
