The Sax Shack Big Band

The Sax Shack Big Band, based in Stoke-on-Trent, resulted from a conversation late 2018 between Nigel Ashworth, Musical Director, and Rob Paramore – Owner of The Sax Shack. They agreed that there were few opportunities for local amateur musicians to play in a Big Band so they decided to form one, and here we are. We advertised for interested musicians and by February 2019 we had enough to start rehearsals. Many of the musicians had not played in a Big Band before and were unfamiliar with the stylistic nuances involved in playing swing and jazz music. Nigel made it his mission, as Musical Director, to call on his 20 years experience as a professional musician to share his knowledge and experience with band members to enable them achieve the highest standard they could and create a great sounding, tight, precise band.
