Swedish Philharmonia

Conductor Jaime Martin

Violin Nemanja Radulovic

Bo Linde A Merry Overture Op.14

Khachaturian Violin Concerto in D minor

Sibelius Symphony No 2 in D, Op.43

Tonight sees a return visit by the Swedish Philharmonia after their 2020 Cheltenham debut.

The centrepiece is Khachaturian’s only violin concerto, written in 1940 and now widely considered one of the instrument’s emblematic works of the last century, and one which helped to seal Khachaturian’s fame.

Either side of this are the jolly, virtuosic Merry Overture by Sweden’s own Bo Linde and Sibelius’ superb second symphony, premiered just after the first performance of Finlandia in 1901. An uplifting and at times ecstatic work, it also sometimes evokes the beautiful Finnish landscape, and ranks among the 20th century’s finest symphonies.

Please note there is a £2 ticket commission fee included in the price of the ticket.
