Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - Vaughan Williams

Dancing Fish – Cecilia McDowall Scaramouche - Milhaud Symphony No. 3 in Eb major, Op. 97 - SchumannRoger Coull – conductor

Gillian Blair – saxophone

Two composers working almost 400 years apart, bring us the much loved Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, written for strings. Inspired by a Russian folk story, Dancing Fish is written for solo saxophone and strings. It is a three-movement work based on incidental music written for a Molière play. Schumann's third symphony is sometimes known as The Rhenish; it was written after the composer had made a trip to the Rhineland with his wife.
