Details

She-Wolves by British Artist Laura Careless tells the stories of the forgotten female rulers of England through a feminist lens. Adapted from the book and BBC series by historian Helen Castor, She-Wolves tells the stories of the women who ruled England before Elizabeth I through dance, theatre, song, fashion, and animated projections: Matilda, Lady of England; Eleanor of Aquitaine; Isabella of France; Margaret of Anjou; Lady Jane Grey and Mary I. In their time, these royal women were vilified as “She-Wolves”. The show explores Britain’s historical relationships with gender and power and seeks to reclaim “She-Wolf” as a symbol of personal re-wilding.
