Haydn · String Quartet in C major, Op.54 no.2

Ravel · String Quartet in F major

Schubert · String Quartet no. 13 in A minor, 'Rosamunde'

We are delighted to welcome the ever-popular Sacconi Quartet back to Music at St Peter's. The Quartet are recognised for their unanimous and compelling ensemble, consistently communicating with a fresh and imaginative approach, and are known throughout the world for their creativity and integrity of interpretation. This year the Sacconis are celebrating 20 years of performing together, still with the original four members.

Ravel's exquisite string quartet was his first great masterpiece, displaying the composer's skill in combining traditional forms and classical elegance with his own harmonic language and texture. Schubert's 13th string quartet is notable for its dark-tinged reserve, delicacy of atmosphere, and irrepressible lyricism. The nickname arises from the use in the slow movement of a theme taken from Schubert's entr'acte for the play "Rosamunde".
