pg.99 (pronounced P.G. Ninety-Nine) is a pioneering screamo band hailing from Richmond, Virginia, formed in the late 1990s. Known for their intense, chaotic sound and emotionally raw lyrics, the band is widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in the screamo and hardcore scenes. Their music combines elements of hardcore punk, post-hardcore, and emo, delivering ferocious, blistering riffs and anguished screams that convey themes of alienation, despair, and personal conflict.
pg.99's breakthrough came with their landmark 2001 album Document #8, a relentless and abrasive work that earned them a devoted cult following. The band's trademark style involves unrelenting shifts between dissonant, frantic bursts of energy and moments of vulnerable introspection. Their live performances are notorious for their ferocity and raw energy, with the band often spilling their emotions directly into the crowd.
Despite their relatively short-lived careerpg.99 disbanded in 2003 their influence is far-reaching, with a legacy that shaped the development of modern screamo, post-hardcore, and even elements of metalcore. Their fragmented, but deeply impactful discography, including Document #8 and How to Be a Person Like Other People (released posthumously), continues to resonate with listeners seeking the emotional intensity and catharsis their music provides.
