Michael Foyle plays Elgar Violin Concerto with EAChO

The East Anglia Chamber Orchestra returns to the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge and The Apex in Bury St Edmunds with another attractive and emotionally demanding programme. Under the baton of Jacques Cohen, the enormously talented Michael Foyle will be the soloist for Elgar’s Violin Concerto. Dedicated to Fritz Kreisler and Yehudi Menuhin, Elgar described his concerto as “too emotional” but admitted that he loved it nonetheless. Written at the height of his career (between 1905-10) and for his own instrument; this concerto is his most personal creation - with a solo part that is one of the most wide-ranging and exhausting in the repertoire. Michael Foyle is the youngest violinist ever to have been appointed Professor at the Royal Academy of Music and has recently performed with the Royal Philharmonic, the English Chamber Orchestra and other major European orchestras. Dvorak’s Seventh Symphony also explores the emotional depths with its characteristic wealth of thematic material. Written for the Royal Philharmonic Society and first performed in London in 1885, the composer was totally absorbed in his quest to match his hero, Brahms. He wrote, “I think of nothing but my work, which must be capable of stirring the world.” With these two highly successful and well-loved works, the concert will be both stirring, exciting, emotionally engaging and spiritually enriching.
