Mary Livingstone, I Presume?

Mary Livingstone, I presume? written and directed by Claire Fisher, builds on our previous forays into the local history of Barnet, bringing to life little or unknown facts within a beautifully crafted dramatic production.

Much has been written about Dr. David Livingstone, the Victorian explorer, missionary and anti-slavery campaigner but almost nothing is known about his wife Mary, whose knowledge of local African languages and standing amongst the local people there was crucial to the success of his travels and ultimately propelled him into the pantheon of historical figures. This play explores the lives of women in differ ent times and places who are undervalued and underestimated.
