Manchester Collective: Places We Know

Details

Places We Know is the first ever collaboration between these free thinkers, and it sees them pair electrifying musical favourites with a set of unlikely companion works. The performance is bookended by movements from Tchaikovsky’s beloved Serenade for Strings. In between, Kuusisto and the Collective present Caroline Shaw’s Plan and Elevation – an act of remembering, a recollection of the various gardens, little paths, and imposing beech trees at the beautiful Dumbarton Oaks estate in the US. They also perform folk songs by Sam Amidon, by turn nostalgic and then prophetic; and the unsettling Larghetto from Penderecki's Serenade. At the heart of this show is a world premiere by another of Manchester Collective’s musical friends and collaborators: Oliver Leith, one of the brightest stars in a new generation of internationally acclaimed British composers. ‘These are the places, pieces, people we know,’ the Collective says. ‘Come meet them.'
