AGMP presents CLIMAX BLUES BAND
Originally known as The Climax Chicago Blues Band, they were formed in 1968 in Stafford by Colin Cooper, Pete Haycock, Derek Holt, Richard Jones, George Newsome and Arthur Wood.
Their first two albums were released in 1969 on Parlophone. Moving to Harvest Records in 1970 the band's sound changed at the time to a more Pop / Rock feel. They gained a formidable live reputation and released three album son Harvest before joining Sire Records in 1973. The Climax Blues Band racked up their biggest in 1976 "Couldn't Get it Right" from the "Gold Plated" album. The song went top 10 in both the UK and the USA. Their next huge hit was 1981's "I Love you".
The members have changed in the group over the years and founder members Colin Cooper and Pete Haycock have both sadly passed away. The band still tour and are about to release a new album.
Rebecca Downes was voted Female Vocalist & Emerging Artist of the year in the Annual British Blues Awards in 2016. Hailing from Birmingham her band features Steve Birkett, Rick Benton, Dan Clark & Lloyd Dakar.
