Li-nan Tsai McClellan is a self-taught painter. She started painting more seriously from 2002 when her first daughter was just over one year old. She has gone through several stages of experimentation, trying landscape, portraits and abstract expression; in oil, pastel, acrylic, ink, and watercolour.

Life and culture in Edinburgh have given her endless inspiration. For landscape painting images of seasonal change in Scotland have had a great impact on her.
