Details

This classic Victorian thriller was written by Hassocks-born writer Patrick Hamilton and provides the origin of the modern term ‘gaslighting’– a form of emotional abuse that makes the victim question their reality.

In the play, Jack Manningham is slowly, deliberately driving his wife, Bella, insane. He has almost succeeded when help arrives in the form of a former detective, Rough, who knows about Manningham’s past.
