Dr. Ismene Brown has welcomed the opportunity to host a series of “up close and personal” chats on the public and private lives of some of the pillars of world Ballet in a series called the “En Face” Interviews in front of a small audience here at the Vyne Theatre.

Adam Cooper - The original Matthew Bourne Swan, Adam's versatility spans classical ballet and musical theatre as both principal dancer and theatre director.

Dr. Ismene Brown is a Soviet historian and arts journalist, dance critic of the Daily Telegraph and The Spectator for some 15 years, and founder of the award-winning arts critics' website The Arts Desk in 2009. Her numerous dance interviews include Carlos Acosta, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Sylvie Guillem, Rudolf Nureyev and Tamara Rojo. Originally trained as a pianist, she was much inspired by visiting Russian performers, and developed a wider interest in Soviet culture through her ballet journalism about the Bolshoi and Kirov/Mariinsky companies (some of which is archived on her website ismeneb.com). After teaching herself Russian, she gained an MA in Russian Studies at UCL in 2014 and a doctorate in Soviet culture politics at the University of Oxford last year, focusing on the Politburo politician and Culture Minister Ekaterina Furtseva.
