Wednesday 2nd April 2025 - Musicke in the Ayre
Musicke in the Ayre are a vocal quartet made up of Rosalind Keefe, Helen Hill, Phil Neville, Chris Hall (voices) and Din Ghani (lute)
In “The well-versed courtier”, early music ensemble Musicke in the Ayre present songs for one to four voices accompanied by lute, based on poetry written by prominent persons from the courts of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. Songs to the lute were in fashion at the beginning of the 17th century: this is music that is just as delightful and appealing now as it was then. Having texts by courtier poets, supplemented by snippets of historical context, helps to animate the events and personalities of this fascinating period.
