Studio Safaris are back again for Sussex Craft Week - get ready to go behind the scenes with the makers who shape Sussex. On this extra special Safari around the creative town of Arundel we will visit FOUR venues and have the opportunity to meet SIX of the region's most talented craftspeople for an intimate discussion of their work, their techniques and inspiration.
You will be in the company of gallery owner James Stewart, who will be your guide for the day.1.
Firstly we will visit Zimmer Stewart Gallery at the Crypt Gallery, currently showing 'Woven' by Weftfaced, and meet master weavers Caron Penney and Katharine Swailes who will introduce you to their practice in hand woven tapestry.2.
Then we will head onto Gallery 57, where we will meet Cara Wassenburg, a sculptor in copper, glass and steel, and tutor in metalworking at West Dean College.
We have reserved at table at Juniper for lunch (or you are welcome to bring a picnic)3.
After lunch we will visit The Duff Gallery (established 1968 by Derek Davis), the studio gallery for figurative raku and stoneware potter Josse Davis, son of potter Derek and painter Ruth Davis.4.
We finish at Parkers Atelier, and discover more about the working life of ceramic artists Deborah Harwood and Sarah Deere Hall. For people arriving by train the station is a 15 minute walk to the meeting point, there are also several car parks in town, Mill Road, Lido and Crown Yard.Spaces on each Safari are deliberately limited to keep the experience special and this Safari is being run in partnership with Craft Town Arundel. This Walking Safari will rendezvous at Arundel War Memorial on the High Street and all the venues are within a half mile of each other.
