Matthew Hawkins recent solo READY is a quiet, stripped-back work a body, a CD player, a box of Beethoven sonatas.Made to happen almost anywhere, it unfolds as a kind of live thinking: listening, remembering, moving shaped by a lifetime of dancing.A work that speaks to decades of practice, to extraordinary attention to detail, and to a deep, accumulated technique held lightly and shared in real time.Matthew Hawkins is a dancer, choreographer and teacher whose career spans over five decades from early training at the Royal Ballet School to performing at Covent Garden, before stepping into an independent path.A founding member of Michael Clark & Company, he has created over twenty works, led his own company, and collaborated widely across the UK and internationally.His practice moves between performance, teaching and choreography rooted in classical training but shaped by curiosity, experimentation and a lifelong engagement with movement.
