Highly regarded saxophonist Dave O'Higgins has worked with the likes of Joe Lovano, Nancy Wilson, Peggy Lee, Kurt Elling, Wayne Shorter & Abdullah Ibrahim.
He has 26 albums as leader to his credit and two British Jazz Award nominations for Best Album and ‘Best Tenor Saxophonist’.
An in-demand producer he produced Matt Bianco’s album “Gravity” and most recently “Masquerader”, which Dave co-wrote and arranged.
The performance this evening is a special treat as it heralds the launch of his latest album featuring not just Dave but his highly accomplished wife and fellow saxophonist, Judith O’Higgins.
From Germany, Judith’s CV includes the Matthew Herbert Big Band & Two Minds Big Band among other ensembles and she is, even more remarkably, a forensic pathologist and noted author.
This new recording, their third together, “Liquorice Allsorts” mixes originals, Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, George Coleman & Lee Morgan tunes and is in the tradition of the classic two tenor line ups epitomised by the Ronnie Scott & Tubby Hayes’ Jazz Couriers and the Johnny Griffin & Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis quintet.
As Dave says it’s “guaranteed to be a proper, swinging, 2-saxophone roar-up with a dream team trio!”.
Also featuring Sean Fyfe-piano; Jeremy Brown-bass and Josh Morrison-drums.
A joyful salute to hard bop at its very best.“exceptional fluency...one of Britain’s finest musicians” Observer; “world class” BBC Music Magazine; “dazzling” Guardian; "stunning player” Jazz Guide
