Please note that you need to be a current Cambridge Federation WI member to book this event.Join us for another fascinating walk along the River Cam based on the historic village of Chesterton. The guided walk will focus mainly on the new wetland features of Logans Meadow but will also consider the river and water. We will look at some aspects of Chesterton, a village dating at least from Roman and Anglo-Saxon times, particularly St Andrews Church which was mentioned in Samuel Pepys diary.Meeting outside the Museum of Technology on Riverside we will cross the Olaudah Equiano Bridge named after this celebrated abolitionist and author. We will visit the Grade 1 Listed St Andrews church and if we have time we will view the mid fourteenth century historic Chesterton Tower building as part of the Chesterton Manor estate. We will then cross back over the Equiano Bridge to the Technology Museum. This is going to be a gentle guided riverside walk of approx. 2k along tarmacked paths and is suitable for wheelchair users. It should take no longer than two hours, but you may choose to curtail the walk at various points. We would advise you wear suitable footwear.Details including meeting point, bus routes, parking and refreshment options will be sent on booking. All participants will receive a handout with a map and descriptions of the many features of interest.Cost: 6.00 (Members only)
