Back in the 1990’s Just East of Jazz gained a reputation as one of the first and best groups to explore the connections between jazz and klezmer, but quickly developed a sound and approach all their own which, over time, took in a much wider range of influences.
Their writing embodied their personal and idiosyncratic concept and compositional style to create a unique collective voice.
After taking a significant break they are once again performing live and tonight will be their first London date for some years.
Joining the core line-up of Jeremy Shoham-sax/clarinet/EWI, Phil Scragg-bass & Rick Finlay- drums/percussion will be their most recent member, keyboard wizard Danny Manners (Happy End, Big Big Train).
With a set of new compositions by all the members of the band (as well as some old favourites) drawing on their eclectic influences from jazz to classical to prog rock, this evening promises to be a unique musical event from some of the finest and most experienced musicians around.“rapid transitions and tight unison playing…a razor-sharp ensemble sound" Guardian; “a restlessly virtuosic display of exceptionally punchy rhythmic precision and tight…improvisation” Jazzwise
