Hellensmusic’s opening concert at St Bartholomew’s Church traces composers through their travels, imagined wanderings, and musical evocations of transportation, bringing together a rich array of works by a range of composers inspired by journeys in many forms.
Among them, the programme moves from a virtual visit to Italy with the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, to the sounds of late nineteenth-century America as heard by the Czech Antonín Dvořák, from Heitor Villa-Lobos’s playful echo of a jet whistle, to a final ascent to heavenly heights in Ralph Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending.Maya Iwabuchi (violin), Charlotte Scott (violin), Adrien Boisseau (viola), Bruno Delepelaire (cello), Michael Cox (flute), Matthew Hunt (clarinet), Julien Quentin (piano) and Hellensmusic Masterclass Students.Works by A.
