Join local performer Jenni Simmonds for an evening of Gilbert & Sullivan arias and musical theatre songs at St. Margaret's church in the beautiful riverside village of Mapledurham, in aid of the Berkshire Cancer Centre and OCD UK.Jenni trained in acting at RADA and in music theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, and is best known for her work in the world of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. She has sung for the National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company, is a long-standing principal of the Offie-nominated Forbear! Theatre, and is a triple-nominee and double-winner of best performer in a female role at the International Gilbert & Sullivan festival. She has also travelled the world as lead vocalist for TUI Cruises. Jenni will be accompanied by pianist, musical director and composer Daniel Lee Chappell, who has worked at Opera Holland Park, Wigmore Hall and St. Petersburg Philharmonia Hall amongst many others. With acting that is 'subtle, nuanced and sophisticated' (London Theatre1) and a voice that is 'an absolute treat' (London Pub Theatres), Jenni always brings a mixture of wit, truth and complexity to her performances. She is thrilled to be raising funds for two causes very close to her heart whilst sharing her love of telling stories through song.Tickets: 25 on the door (contactless card payments only) or 25 + 2.10 booking fee online. Road: From Caversham Bridge take the A4074, signposted Oxford/Woodcote. After a couple of miles turn left opposite the Pack Saddle pub. At the crossroads turn left, signposted Mapledurham House and Water Mill. Drive with care, the lane is narrow. After approx. a mile and a half the church car park will be on the left, shortly before you reach the manor gates. Sat nav: St Margaret's Church, Mapledurham, Reading RG4 7TP.
Public transport: Due to the rural nature of Mapledurham there is unfortunately very limited public transport. The nearest train station is Reading. The closest bus route is the X40, which departs Reading station approx. every 20-30 minutes. Alight at Rokeby Drive. From here the church is a 40 minute walk along country lanes, or a 5 minute taxi ride. Taxis directly from the station will take 10-15 minutes.
