The walk traces the towns evolving landscape of faith from the founding of Reading Abbey in 1121 to the diverse worship spaces of today. We briefly explore the remains of the great medieval abbey that shaped the towns early identity, visit centuries-old parish churches that weathered the Reformation, encounter the dissenters chapels that tell stories of non-conformity and social change and visit one of Reading's newer religious buildings, the Goldsmid Road synagogue. The walk also highlights modern religious architecture, revealing how new communities and contemporary design continue to shape Readings living tapestry of belief.
