Celebrate the beauty of Baroque orchestral music with the Venice Baroque Orchestra and its founder-director Andrea Marcon. Now in its 29th year, the Venice Baroque Ensemble is known for its ‘vivid, strongly etched performances that often reach fiery intensity’ (Gramophone).Performing on period instruments, the orchestra has won praise for its seminal recordings of music by Antonio Vivaldi.
This concert highlights the variety of Vivaldi’s virtuoso works for soloists and orchestra, from the soulfulness of the Concerto for Two Cellos to the flamboyant high spirits of the Flute Concerto.Works by two of Vivaldi’s distinguished London-based contemporaries are also on the programme.
Francesco Geminiani’s lively Concerto grosso is based on a famous dance tune, while George Frideric Handel’s is full of grace and charm.Supported by the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh
