This illustrated talk looks at the life and work of Sir Nigel Gresley on the 150th anniversary of his birth, his crowning achievements including his recordbreaking Flying Scotsmanand Mallard, his streamlined trains and his lesserknown locomotives and rolling stock.
It will look at his impact on Darlington Works and the 702 locomotives built there whilst he was Chief Mechanical Engineer of the LNER, as well as his lasting impact with his class P2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales under construction at Hopetown.
Mark Allatt is a trustee of the Gresley Society and former chairman of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust.
This talk is hosted by the Sir Nigel Gresley Society.
This talk will take place in the Stephenson Room inside North Road Station Museum at 11am (doors 10.30am) and last approximately one hour with time for Q and A.
