About
Torry existed long before it was made a royal burgh in 1495, once the domain of a Pictish chief who may have had his castle on the Balnagask Motte.
Torry existed long before it was made a royal burgh in 1495, once the domain of a Pictish chief who may have had his castle on the Balnagask Motte. Best known as a fishing community which was swept away in 1971 with the coming of oil, but the Victorian Lower Torry village had already been destroyed in the 1860s following the diversion of the River Dee to suit merchant shipping in Aberdeen Harbour. Torry has many stories that are long forgotten, now brought to life again as we walk the sites.Including:Site of the lost villages
