High-octane mix of Cuban classics and contemporary Cuban repertoire.Line up:
Keys, BV and MD: Eliane Correa
Lead vocals: Juanita Euka
Trombone & BV: Landy Díaz
Bass & BV: Jimmy Martínez / Frank Portuondo
Drumkit with timbales: Fernando Depestre
Congas: Will FryInspired by the modern-day large timba orchestras of Havana, Eliane Correa's Cuban Septet brings a high-octane mix of Cuban classics, contemporary Cuban repertoire and some small-format adaptations of Eliane's original pieces for her supergroup La Evolución. Cuban music goes much further than the sound of Buena Vista Social Club: prepare to be transported by the modern, grooving, passionate and unapologetically complex sound of the younger generations of the Cuban diaspora.Elements of soul, funk, rock and jazz nod to Hancock, Havana and the melting pot that is London. Utterly maravilloso (★★★★ Jazzwise)
Eliane Correa is a pan-Latinx pianist and composer whose trajectory in the UK and internationally has made her a key cultural figure of the London Latin music community.Aside from touring as a soloist with Hans Zimmer for the past 7 years and acting as musical director for various touring artists and projects, such as soulstress Elli Ingram and Latin jazz supergroup New Regency Orchestra, she has consolidated new aspects of the Latin musical scene of the city with her original projects over the years:Her Cuban funk and R&B fusion band Wara paved the way for Latin Alternative music in the 2010's in London, and La Evolución continues to be one of the world's only female-led, majority-Cuban and mixed gender Cuban Timba orchestras. She also curates the yearly London Latin Jazz Fest, the only festival of its kind in the UK.
With 3 LUKAS awards and one Mark Award under her belt, as well as an array of nominations and four and five star reviews of her various original releases in magazines such as Songlines and Jazzwise, Correa is a member of the GRAMMY Recording Academy and a Global Community Fellow at SOAS University for her experience and contributions to the UK's musical landscape.
