Willy Russell's Our Day Out is a poignant yet humorous play about a group of disadvantaged school children on a, often chaotic, day trip.
It contrasts the children's fleeting joy and freedom with their bleak futures, highlighting themes of social deprivation and educational inequality.Originally set in 1980's Liverpool, the play was written about Russell's own experience as a teacher of a similar class to the one depicted in Our Day Out, on a trip to Conwy Castle in Wales.
However, our production is a little closer to home, with our group setting off from Brighton on their way to Pevensey Castle, with a few well-known stops along the way.The Year 9 Newman Drama Academy are delighted to be performing this play marking their 3rd annual production at BOAT.
