Using music, layering and sensory memory inspired by her novels Fire Rush and soon-to-be published Sky City, participants will draw on their unique life stories through rhythm, nature and emotional truth to create powerful writing.Jacqueline Crooks is a Jamaican-born British writer and community development practitioner whose work explores migration, subcultures, and the rhythms of resistance.

Her debut novel, Fire Rush, is a lyrical, genre-defying story of dub reggae, love, freedom, and Black womanhood.

It won the 2024 PEN America Open Book Award and the Society of Authors Paul Torday Prize, and was shortlisted for the Womens Prize for Fiction, Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize, Jhalak Prize, Authors Club Best First Novel Award, and the McKitterick Prize.

Jacquelines short story collection, The Ice Migration, was longlisted for the 2019 Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.This event is part of the Words Alive in Libraries tour, presented by South Western Regional Library Services and Literature Works, and funded by Arts Council England.
