This concert promises a rich tapestry of Russian orchestral masterpieces, transporting listeners on an exhilarating musical journey.Opening the programme is Alexander Glazunovs La Mer, a Fantasy for Orchestra scored for a huge orchestra with a sumptuous, Wagnerian-inspired soundscape.
Dmitri Shostakovichs Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor is a deeply emotive masterpiece and will be played by the exceptional violin soloist Andy Long.The evening concludes with Ashkenazys masterful arrangement of Modest Mussorgskys Pictures at an Exhibition.
Audiences will be invited to step inside Mussorgskys vibrant gallery, exploring a world of imagery and character brought vividly to life by the many brilliant orchestral colours.Musical Director Shaun Matthew shares his excitement about the upcoming programme:This concert is a real celebration of Russian music at its most passionate, powerful, and colourful.
