Local Choirs seasonal Summer Concert features the old and the newpieces, of Vivaldis Gloria and Bob Chilcotts Little Jazz Mass.
This year, the Wombourne and District Choral Society is to perform their Summer Concert at St Benedict Biscop Church, Church Road, Wombourne, Wolverhampton on Saturday 11th July at 7.30pm, which will feature Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, and Little Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott.Antonio Vivaldi wrote at least three Gloria compositions, settings of the hymn Gloria in excelsis Deo, with words probably dating back to the 4th century, and an integral part of the mass ordinary. Two of them have survived: RV 588 and RV 589. A third, RV 590, is mentioned only in the Kreuzherren catalogue and presumed lost. The RV 589 Gloria is a familiar and popular piece and will be the setting performed at the concert.Bob Chilcott is well known for his compositions for children's choirs, including Can You Hear Me?, which he has conducted in the many venues around the world. He is associated with the New Orleans Children's Chorus and the Crescent City Festival in New Orleans, for which he wrote A Little Jazz Mass, Happy Land, This Day, Be Simple Little Children, and for the 2009 festival, I Lift My Eyes.Tickets for the concert are 15 each, with children under 16 free and can be bought from choir members, online at the choirs website www.wombournechoralsociety.org.uk, or by buying at the door on the night.
