On this occasion, Ian Carr will be joined by the incredible John McCusker, one of the most respected fiddlers in the UK folk scene.★★★This performance centres around Vent, the 2024 album byLaura Wilkie and Ian Carr a widely praised and deeply collaborative project that breathes new life into ancient Gaelic waulking songs. Traditionally sung to accompany the communal work of finishing tweed, these songs are reimagined here as richly textured instrumental pieces.At the heart of Vent is a unique musical language shaped by close interplay and shared intuition. Wilkies approach to melody moving from low, husky tones to bright, soaring lines is met by Carrs fluid and responsive acoustic guitar work, creating a sound world that feels both rooted in tradition and strikingly contemporary. Blending folk influences with subtle, immersive textures, the music opens up space for both intimacy and exploration.Produced byWilkie alongside Sarah Hayes, the album has been praised for its originality, musical intelligence and the natural chemistry between the musicians. Live, the project continues to evolve, with arrangements shifting and expanding from performance to performance.While this lineup offers a slightly different perspective, the spirit of the music remains the same thoughtful, expressive and grounded in collaboration.The concert will be followed by a trad session upstairs, led bySophie Joint and Breanna Wilson - musicians are warmly encouraged to bring their instruments and join in.
