Wagner’s ‘The Flying Dutchman’

In a new orchestration by Laura Bowler and a new English version by Glyn Maxwell, based on an original concept by Lucy Bradley

This September, OperaUpClose, in partnership with Manchester Camerata (‘Britain’s most adventurous orchestra’ The Times), present Wagner’s masterpiece The Flying Dutchman in an immersive production inspired by the original ghost story, re-told as a haunting, contemporary, political tale.

Glyn Maxwell’s re-imagined English version depicts an island nation struggling with its identity in a world of displaced people; with Laura Bowler’s new 8-piece chamber orchestration featuring recorded local community choirs from across the UK alongside a cast of internationally renowned opera singers.
