Detaljer

Written nearly two hundred years ago, The Last Man is a poignant and hugely relevant story for today. In the 21st Century, in a world wracked by a deadly plague, the human race’s arrogance in its relationship with nature knows no bounds.

This one woman show stars Amy Kidd and is based on this later novel by Mary Wollstonecroft Shelley, the author of Frankenstein; written after the deaths of her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley and three of her children. It expresses Mary’s own sense of loss and isolation, and features characters based on Mary herself, Shelley, Lord Byron and Mary’s sister, Claire Claremont.

The adaptation is by award-winning writer Sam Chittenden of Brighton’s DifferenT Theatre, who delves into the biographical elements of the novel and the human impact of this plague to deliver a show of great poignancy.
