Detaljer

In 1982 Adrian Freer was a 29-year-old Parachute Regiment Officer seconded to the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre. However, following the government’s decision to send a naval task force to the South Atlantic he joined 3 Para as Second in Command of A Company and prepared for deployment to the Falkland Islands.

Adrian’s talk will embrace many aspects of that deployment from the sea voyage south on board the SS Canberra alongside 40 & 42 Commandos’, the landings and subsequent ’tab’ across East Falkland, 3 Para’s assault onto Mount Longdon through to the campaign’s immediate aftermath.

Maj Gen Adrian Freer was commissioned into the Parachute Regiment in 1972. His regimental service included tours in all three parachute battalions. He saw operational service in Northern Ireland, the Falklands and also in Kosovo, when he led the UK Spearhead forces into the province in June 1999. He commanded the International Military Advisory Training Team in Sierra Leone and was military advisor to the President of Sierra Leone. He completed his service, seconded to the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, with responsibility for the Kosovo Protection Corps.
