PROGRAMME Mozart: String Quartet in G, K.156 Elgar: Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 Schubert: String Quintet in C major, D. 956 This concert has been arranged by Katherine Jenkinson in Memory of Margaret and Michael Mallender who supported both Music at Duffield and Derby Chamber Music Society during their lives and left substantial legacies to both societies. The works being performed at this concert are some of the finest and best-loved in the classical music repertoire. This version of the Elgar Cello Concerto has been transcribed by Carl Hindle/St George's Chamber Orchestra for a small chamber ensemble and enables the work, originally for full orchestra, to be performed with resources available to smaller music societies. Katherine is doing the world premier performances and recording the chamber reduction. The Schubert Quintet for two cellos contains some of the most beautiful music ever written.
