Space was famously a recurring theme in David Bowie’s music. From Starman and Life on Mars to Hallo Spaceboy, Bowie wrote over a dozen songs in which space was a potent metaphor.

For this special Hebridean Dark Skies Festival concert, musicians Scott C Park, Josie Duncan, Michael McGovern and Andrew Eaton Lewis will create and perform imaginative new arrangements of almost all of Bowie’s space-themed songs, from Space Oddity to Blackstar, a haunting epic released just before his death in 2016.

An Lanntair’s auditorium will transform into outer space for this Hebridean tribute to a music legend. Dressing up – Bowie-themed or space-themed, or both – is encouraged.

As part of our Dark Skies Festival programme we will also screen the cult sci-fi film The Man Who Fell to Earth (pictured), in which Bowie plays an alien struggling to fit into human society.

The Hebridean Dark Skies Festival runs from 9-21 March 2023 with arts and astronomy events for all the family at An Lanntair and across Lewis and Harris. Browse the full festival programme here.

The festival is supported by Caledonian MacBrayne and Outer Hebrides Tourism, in partnership with Calanais Visitor Centre, Stornoway Astronomical Society, Gallan Head Community Trust, Lews Castle College UHI, Cala Hotels, and VisitScotland.
