Daubs on the Downs

Along the way, we will look at paintings of the South Downs by both famous and less well-known artists. The nostalgic poster art of Frank Newbould and James Bateman contrast with the pared down, empty landscapes and seascapes of Eric Ravilious. Eric Slater's stormy seas, David Gentleman's drawings of the cliffs and Philip Hughes’ sketch at Cuckmere Haven capture this unique landscape in all its moods while Neil Gower and Dave Thompson offer more contemporary interpretations. This circular walk returns via Crowlink hamlet.
