Chahat Mahmood Ali Qawwal

As part of Kings Place’s annual Songlines Encounters Festival, we proudly present an evening of soul-stirring Qawwali with Chahat Mahmood Ali Qawwal, one of the most exciting young voices in the tradition today.

Born in Faisalabad, Pakistan, Chahat Mahmood Ali Qawwal is a student of the legendary Ustaad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, carrying forward the centuries-old legacy of Qawwali with breathtaking skill and devotion. His talent has already garnered international recognition, with the Financial Times (2024) stating, ‘He is 21 years of age and yet sings like the masters.’

Accompanied by his ensemble, Chahat Mahmood Ali’s powerful vocals, intricate melodies, and deep connection to Sufi poetry create an electrifying and immersive experience. His repertoire pays homage to the greats, featuring compositions inspired by Amir Khusrau, Bulleh Shah, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, blending tradition with youthful energy.
