Oil is black gold for big money investors, but for the rest of us… purgatory.

‘BLACK GOLD BLUES’ is a new musical with a live band; written, produced, directed and played by local Environmental Activists. It is emotional, cynical, scornful and furious by turns. But it always tries to be truthful.

It looks at our situation from different angles. The musical is not quite Mary Poppins because our situation is different. It is best summed up simply by two words Love and Rage; love for the world, nature in all its glory, including humanity and rage at what we are doing to it all for the sake of greed, ignorance and hubris.

Black Gold Blues takes an abstract approach to the subject matter. It examines and illuminates various aspects of our world reliance on fossil fuels and its destructive effects. Its spotlight ranges, from fascist tendencies in politics, power, the COP project and its corruption by Big Oil, the difficulties protesters face and the judiciary. It offers comfort and joy as well as a challenge to address the dangers of our present situation with greater resolve. Because there is hope.

There is a way. If we dare.
