Detaljer

‘The Baedeker Blitz’ shares the experiences of Exeter's World War 2 survivors, through the form of verbatim theatre. The musical will transport you back in time, as we revive the stories and recollections of the adults and youth, through the playful and creative way that the show lends itself to. Originally written and performed by ‘The Bikeshed Theatre Company’ in 2012. The show, set in 1942, tells the stories of many different people from various backgrounds, shedding light on wartime realities, making sure that people's stories are heard and not lost in the past.

We have all thoroughly enjoyed exploring the style of verbatim theatre, a writing and performance style that uses the words of real people to convey a story to its audiences, the script also gives a nod to testimonial theatre, a style in which is wrought from people bearing witness to their own stories through remembrance and words. All of which has helped us to keep peoples' stories alive, by sharing real, valuable experiences.

Our rehearsal period has been full of excitement as we remember what it was like to be children ourselves and embody how 1940’s children lived, through physical exploration and interesting ensemble exercises, that we’ve worked hard on to influence our performance.

We can’t not wait for you to join us, so that we can transport you back to the 1940’s with our version of The Baedeker Blitz.
