Detaljer

Join author Ajay Close at Paisley Central Library as she uncovers the sensational story behind her acclaimed novel, What We Did in the Dark.

Novelist Ajay Close, took a century-old Scottish mystery as the starting point of her sixth novel, What We Did in the Dark.

Why would a young Glasgow university student marry a man within three weeks of meeting him, against the advice of her family and friends? Why would he try to kill her three months later? Why, after she had won her freedom in a landmark divorce case and was famous for her highly personal novels, non-fiction and journalism, would she never tell the full story of that disastrous first marriage?

“As soon as I heard about Catherine Carswell’s marriage to Herbert Jackson I was fascinated and had to find out more." said Ajay.

"An enthralling read. Put everything else aside.” Historical Novels Review

Author Ajay will tell Catherine Carswell’s fascinating story, illustrated with slides of Cathie, her artist husband Herbert, and other key people and places. She will also read from, What We Did in the Dark.
