Maia Kobabe in conversation with Knut Nærum

Award-winning author and illustrator Maia Kobabe meets Norwegian writer, cartoonist and comedian Knut Nærum for a conversation about comics, memoir, identity and the stories that shape us.In this conversation, Kobabe and Nærum will explore how comics can be used to tell personal stories, from first encounters with the medium and artistic inspiration to reader responses, representation and the courage it takes to stand firm when a book becomes part of a larger cultural conflict.Kobabe is best known for Gender Queer: A Memoir , a widely acclaimed graphic memoir about finding language for desire, boundaries and identity.Nærum has written novels, comics, crime fiction, humour books and jokes for more than forty years, and is well known to Norwegian audiences from NRK’s Nytt på nytt .This event is part of Kapittel - Stavanger International Festival of Literature and Freedom of Speech, 16–20 September 2026.
