UCS Lower School presents The Roaring Boys, a new play inspired by Bacchae, Euripides classic about crisis, chaos, and control.
Alex is playing Dionysos, the Greek god who has whipped Thebes into a wild ecstasy in defiance of the king.
As the events of Alexs life slowly start to resemble those of Euripides play, tensions rise between Alexs parents over his emerging activism.
At the same time, a fight is played out on the stage of real life: a school strike for climate. Two families - one contemporary and one ancient - find themselves divided.
The Roaring Boys is a modern tragedy sprouting between the lines of an ancient one.
An ambitious, multimedia production about pre-covid school strikes, the danger of literature, and the difficult balance between giving children a voice in our democracy and protecting them from harm.
